Portraits by Shannon

Shooting portraits is how I got started. Like many new mom’s I couldn’t take enough pictures of my first baby. One thing led to another, and before I knew it I was shooting all my pregnant friends, their new babies, and their families.

Newborn Sessions

Newborn sessions are for babies who are just born; about 5 days old is perfect. After about 10 days old, they tend to start stretching and startle easier. In order to get those adorable curled up poses, I need the baby to sleep though posing. Typically the youngest babies sleep the most and we have a better chance for a successful shoot.

I will come to your home with my wagon full of photography gear, and set up shop right there in your house. You don’t have to get dressed, put on makeup, or leave the house. Newborn sessions require a precise and gentle approach. Sessions can last up to 3 hours or more. This allows time for setting up, feedings, diaper changes, and rocking the baby to sleep. Often the newborns will be photographed nude, but don’t worry, I have been pee’d on and pooped on so many times that I hold the all time record of being pee’d on 7 times in one session!

Safety Note: Several newborn images are composites created in photoshop. Do not try to pose your newborn like this at home.

Once the babies are old enough to walk, I like to venture out into more urban and scenic settings. My goal is capturing the free spirit of your little ones, not perfectly posing them. I follow them around until they are comfortable enough with me to show their genuine smiles.

There was one thing on my “must have” list while I was pregnant, and that was getting maternity photos taken. I still look at mine, and I’m shocked how huge my belly was. It reminds me of that part of my life that is so significant, yet goes by so fast.

Family Sessions

Do you get your family’s picture taken every year or has it been way too long since the last one? Family sessions are best done on location with plenty of space and a variety of scenery. In the fall I offer mini sessions for those who need their annual Christmas card photos.

Session rates begin at $300 and full collections starting at $600. High resolution fully retouched digital files are always included. A full line of prints, cards, albums, and canvases are available for purchase.
